Sunday Night Madness
In a wild NFC East shootout on Sunday night the Philadelphia Eagles improved to 9-4 in their 45-38 win over the Giants. With 3 games left, 2 being at home, and a season finale at Dallas the Eagles have a strong grip on their division and look think they will play host to the #5 or #6 seed in the 1st round of the playoffs, depending on if they finish ahead of the 8-5 Cardinals. In Sunday night’s game Philly wide out DeSean Jackson continued his monster season. With a 60-yard TD from McNabb and a 72-yard punt return Jackson signed his named into the NFL record books tying Devin Hester’s record of 8 touchdowns over 50-yards in a single season. Only difference…Jackson is already a #1 receiver and the future at WR for Hester just looks bad…
-21 catches….200 yards….2 TD…2 amazing records
In Denver’s loss to Indy last week Brandon Marshall set a single game NFL record with 21 receptions. He also became the only player in NFL history to have 2 games in a career with 18 or more receptions. Here what he said to the receivers coach Adam Gase before the game….allegedly…
“…before the game and I told him, ‘I think this is going to be the best game I’ve ever played.’ Just because of the environment, the situation of playing the Colts…”
Whether Marshall actually said this or not he had one of the most impressive single games in the history of the NFL. While Marshall truly stood out this past Sunday the Colts improved to 13-0, locked up home field advantage in the AFC, won an NFL best 22-consectitive regular season games, and set the record for NFL wins in a decade with 114. …It might be too early to say this but if Payton Manning can win another Super Bowl his name needs to be mentioned for best NFL quarterback….ever..
-Jets and Dolphins still in it
With only 3 games to play the 7-6 Jets and Dolphins trail New England by 1 game. It’s crazy to think that last year the 11-5 Pats missed the playoffs and this year 9 or 10 wins is going to win the AFC East. Here what the remaining schedules look like for each team…
New England: @Buffalo, Jacksonville, @Houston…not a completely hard schedule but the Pats are 0-5 in road games in the U.S. and that leaves a big question mark
Miami: @Tennessee, Houston, Pittsburg…tough tough road game this week against the HOT Titans. If Miami can play some defense this week and beat Tennessee they look to finish 10-6
New York Jets: Atlanta, @Indy, Cincinnati….Rex Ryan coaching his team through this 3-game span into the playoffs…naw not happening
-Steelers…wow
With last week’s loss to the Cleveland Browns the Pittsburg Steelers fall to 6-7 and their playoffs hopes have been crushed. This is the 5th consecutive loss for the Steelers, tying an NFL mark for consecutive losses for the reigning Super Bowl Champ. Pittsburg couldn’t get the ball into the end zone and the Browns starting QB, Brady Quinn, only completed 6 passes. Come on Tomlin…Now Cleveland joins Chicago, Kansas City and Oakland as piss-poor teams to beat the Steelers. With games left against Green Bay, Baltimore, and Miami it might be an incredibly long off season to look forward to…but hey there’s always Pirates baseball to look forward to.
MVP Talks
With 3 games left there are plenty of great candidates for this year’s NFL MVP award. Anyway you look at it there are going to be some losers this year who have a completely legitimate claim for the award. Right now though if Drew Breese finishes the season with a 16-0 record and leads the league in QB rating, TD, and completion % (all categories he currently leads in) it’s going to be hard to give the award elsewhere. Breese would be the 1st player form the Saints to win the AP MVP award.
Week 15
Saturday NFL Football returns….all this means is that the Poinsettia Papa Johns.com bowl between MTSU and SMU is right around the corner!! Actually the Saturday night game is Dallas @ New Orleans. Should be a great game and we will get to see how Coach Sean Payton wants to use his starters after starting 13-0. The line opened at NO -7 and is now at NO -8…better get on that soon Saints fans.
Sounds crazy but after that Saturday night game and the game between the Bengals and Chargers the Miami @ Tennessee contest shapes up to be the 3rd best game of the week. Both teams are still fighting to find a playoff spot and after a 0-6 start the Titans are just 1 win away from getting to .500 at 7-7.
