Whats up in the AFC?
With only 4 weeks to go in the NFL season the AFC East is still up for grabs. With Miami’s impressive win over the Pats last week the Dolphins have pulled to within 1 game of New England. What continues to stun us is New England’s refusal to win a road game. Officially the Pats road record is 1-5. But that one road win was against Tampa Bay in London and we just can’t count that as a true road win. The final 4 games for New England look like 4 wins in, Carolina, Buffalo, Jacksonville, and Houston, but with the Pats playing away at Buffalo and Houston who knows. How could a sane person could bet against Tommy Brady and kiss the rings Belichick? How? But without a true road win this year we’re gonna have to wait and see if the Jets or Dolphins have the “cojones” to play amazing football down the stretch and steal New England’s playoff spot.
Coach of the Year….Tom Cable???
Of course not….But it’s time to give him some credit. Throughout a season filled with controversy and doubt, Tom Cable has been able to lead the Raiders to a 4-8 season so far. And with games against Washington and Cleveland left they might win 5 or 6 games. What makes this so impressive is the Oakland is by far the worst team in the NFL. They clearly have the least amount of talent. Teams with worse records at least have promising Quarterbacks or other skill position players. But who does Oakland have?? Justin Fargas, Michael Bush, Darren McFadden, JaMarcus Russell, Bruce Gradkowski…ehh this isn’t a good team. Oakland probably won’t send a player to the Pro Bowl. But look at the Raiders at 4-8…it’s impressive, let’s give the guy a little credit. But don’t get me wrong Tom Cable is a filthy scumbag…then again I’d be pissed as hell if I was taking orders from Al Davis…
Titans Stay Impressive
Tennessee’s impressive 5-game win streak has come to an end. The Titans are so far away from that 0-6 team they used to be its absolutely insane. Last week in their 27-17 loss at Indy the Titans had more 1st downs, total yards, rushing yards, and time of possession than the Colts. Vince Young completed 24/43 passes for 241 yards, 2 TD and an INT. The Titans battled very hard and it’s crazy to think that in week 6 in their 59-0 loss to the Pats they had -7 passing yards, 9 first down, and 5 turnovers and are now a simple 4 game win streak away from a possible playoff spot. Without jumping the gun the Titans have home games against St. Louis, Miami, San Diego and a road game at Seattle. What a great story. The ’92 Chargers are the only 0-4 ream to make the playoffs. No team has ever started 0-5 and certainly not 0-6 and continued on to make the playoffs. Look for the Titans to roll over St. Louis at home this week and get right back on track.
NFC East Heating
With the Giants 31-24 win over the Cowboys last week things are heating up in the NFC East. Going into week 14 the Cowboys and Eagles are tied at 8-4 and the Giants only trail by 1 game at 7-5. Philly and New York play Sunday night and Dallas is home against San Diego this week. Any number of situations can play out in this Division and it’s going to be a tight finish. Except for the newly formed Houston Texas the Cowboys are the last NFL team to have won a playoff game…All that money, all that hype, all that attention and nothing to show for it…it’s crazy seeing all the talent on TV pick Dallas year after year after year and they still haven’t won a playoff game since 1996. Will they win a playoff game this year…ehh who knows? Let’s just take this quick opportunity to remind ourselves what Lou Holtz said about the now coach less 6-6 “fighting” irish at the beginning of the season, “I personally believe, if you ask me, ‘Who’s going to play in the national championship game?’ I’d say it’s going to be Florida and the University of Notre Dame. They return 11 starters on offense. They return all three running backs, the two best wide receivers, they have a great defense coming back.”……………Thank you Lou……….
Why the BCS Sucks
If Indy and New Orleans both finish the season undefeated let’s just skip the rest of the playoffs, wait like 5 weeks, and let them play in the Super Bowl…I actually pray for a playoff system in college football.
Week 14 Matchups
Other than the great NFC East games coming up this week the Cincinnati @ Minnesota and Denver @ Indy games should be good games to watch…On a personal note AP had 6.5 fantasy points and Minnesota D had -2 fantasy points last week helping me leap frog the kid who should have gotten the final spot in my fantasy football league playoffs….S-S-S-S-S-S-S-S-S-STAMP!!!
