The Good, the Bad and the Ugly
By: The Jewish Dragon
With only 2 teams left to have their bye, NY Giants and Texans, the rest of the NFL is at the halfway mark and oh boy are we starting to see the season take form. Week 9 has only confirmed what we thought about the NFL this year and now it’s official…this is the year of the good the bad and the ugly.
Through half the NFL season there are 7 teams that have a combined 9 wins. That’s no typo. What’s better is that by the end of the year this ratio might be even worse and we could see the NFL’s bottom 7 winning as many games as the NFL’s best. With teams like St. Louis, Detroit, and Tampa Bay gifting teams wins while only beating each other we have to say the bottom feeders this year are the ugliest in the history of the NFL. If Eric Mangini actually thinks he can gain that elusive competitive edge by not announcing who is going to be out there throwing the picks for Cleveland between Brady Quinn and Derek Anderson then the name Man-gina will actually stick. And before I actually get sick and go on a rant this needs to be known about Oakland; in 8 games they have scored 78 points…8 games 78 points, you do the math. JaMarcus Russell has 2 TD’s to his 8 INT’s and a QB rating of 48.3 on the season. I don’t care how many wins they end up with, he is the worst QB in the NFL and Oakland is the Ugliest.
The Bad. While we all had high hopes for the Giants, Bears, Packers, and the 49ers these guys continually show they are not ready to be top notch competitors and are atop our bad teams list. With Aaron Rodgers getting sacked like a QB in a JV game and with Packers recent loss to Tampa Bay the Packers have shown they are not mature enough to move forward as a team and will have to watch Favre play for those damn Vikings in late December and on into 2010. After that impressive 5-0 start by the Giants we have seen them drop their last 4. ‘Nough said. You lose 4 in a row at any point in the NFL you’re done. Oh remember Alex Smith? Yeah he’s the starter for San Fran now and we will have the joy watching his rip through Lovie’s old and pathetic Tampa-2 D this week. Bears 10 San Fran 38 and Lovie’s on CBS next year.
The Good. And in some cases the GREAT. As it’s always fun to see bad teams lose and not cover we watch the NFL to see the winners. The great teams, with great schemes, and great results. Just watch Sunday night football this week. And not just because Madden’s gone, thus making it a more enjoyable but slightly less entertaining broadcast, but to get to see New England and Indy go at it will be a great site for your eyes and for your fantasy score. While New Orleans and Minnesota are both in great shape and will easily roll into the playoffs it’s going to be a great race in the NFC for those other 4 spots with 7 teams competing for them. As far as the AFC goes just count on seeing a rematch of this Sunday night game 2 weeks before the Super Bowl.
